Garrett Leight is the first to admit that being the son of Larry Leight, founder of iconic, 30-year-old eyewear brand Oliver Peoples, has benefited his own pursuits in the eyewear business. He learned the ropes working for his father's company after attending college in Los Angeles, and while he initially wanted to break into journalism, he came to realize that eyewear was in his blood: In 2009, he opened up an optical store (A. Kinney Court) in Venice Beach, then launched his own namesake brand in 2011. Garrett Leight California Optical was created in 2010 and is fueled by a group of young, passionate purveyors of eyewear, dedicated to creating classic designs by combining perfect craftsmanship with timeless aesthetics.
Founded in Venice Beach and designed at our studio in the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles, GLCO is influenced and inspired by the people, places, and stories of California. Each design incorporates the easy-going philosophy of California culture and is stamped with VC/CA 90291 as a reminder of their Venice roots.
Subtle details and technical features are carefully considered for fit, proportion, and comfort. GLCO demands a high standard of perfect quality to guarantee their customers the ultimate value in quality and style. They spend years mastering the intricate details of a GLCO frame with their factory partners before releasing a frame to market. GLCO uses the most exclusive, highest quality materials from the best suppliers in the industry with hundreds of years of experience. The cured acetates, ranging from deadstock to colorways exclusively designed and produced for GLCO, are sourced from the top acetate houses in Japan, Italy, and China. GLCO's lenses are made of mineral glass and scratch-resistant CR-39 plastic, with anti-reflective coating and other treatments such as layered mirrors for the best eye protection, clarity, and visual acuity.
